ART BASEL MIAMI 2011

Right before the holidays we headed down to ART BASEL in Miami. This was another great trip with perfect weather jam packed with tons of painting.
We left Monday afternoon from ATL with a truck full of paint, ladders, brushes, cans and arrived early Tuesday morning. Upon Arrival, The first thing I did was head out to the Wynwood Arts District to check the wall on NW 2nd and 23rd I was set up to paint.
After some cuban coffee and a sandwich I mapped out the sketch for the mural. Next we were off to Home Depot for a 5 gallon of white buff paint. Once it was a clean slate, I began sketching on the wall utilizing the massive rolldown door for our good old friend, MR. LOUDMOUF. That was the starting point of the piece and I worked my way out from it.
As I got up on the ladder, there was a ton of birds living above the wall in the over-hang who didn't seem happy I was painting in their front yard. I thought it was only right to include them in the piece. As the mural developed it transformed into a representation of how humans tend to destroy nature only seeking to better their lives. More or less, Nature was fighting back.

The second day, I gave my good friend SHARK TOOF a call to get down on the remaining sections open of the building's wall. Shark was down and gave ANTHONY LISTER a call to collab on it. By the third day we all had completed our fills and were working on details and clean up.
Here are a few progress shots:

Friday night I wrapped up the piece and we headed out to a few openings in Wynwood and caught up with the ABV CREW and a few artists I hadn't seen in a few months.
We crashed for the evening in preparation for the next days event, BASEL CASTLE where I painted live. Tons of incredible acts performed while Shark Toof, Beau Stanton, Sam Flores, Ron English and Myself painted live for a crowd of 2000 people. Musical acts included: Yelawolf, The Rapture (Dj Set), Penguin Prison, Bad Rabbits, Cris Cab, Ninjasonik, Tamara Sky, Le Blorr, Damaged Goods, Troy Kurtz, Heroes x Villians and Spinstyles.
